This Guitar Has Ruined Me by Nick I used to play a Yamaha GC31 handcrafted. One day, I stumbled into a small guitar store to see what they had. The old man who owns the place handed me the CY116 and I fell in love with it the moment I played it.
I lost my job a week later and, obviously, did not have the money for this guitar. After two years getting back on top of my career I could finally afford to go buy the guitar that had captivated me so.
I immediately sold my yamaha and have played the CY116 since. It's construction is beautiful with multi layered ivoroid bindings, and a great inlay on the head. It is a very different looking design that makes it stand apart from the usual classical guitar. Part of this is the Burled Mahogany sides and back that grab your attention.
It's playability is flawless for me. No fret buzz no matter how aggressively I play. While rather reserved in the higher registers, it's bass registers are deep and sonorous. Every inch of this guitar positively hums and vibrates with the music. It's projection, while not a concert level guitar, is excellent for anything short of a concert hall performance.
In short, this guitar has ruined me because no other guitar ANYWHERE even close to the $990 price tag even comes close. I also play two Amalio Burguets, a Ramirez, and an Antonio Aparicio. They are gathering dust though and are soon to be sold. I am selling all of these and buying the only other guitar that feels and sounds as good. A Yairi CY140 or CY196.
I hate to hit the dealers like this as I did buy one of the CY116's new for $890. However, EBay is positively packed with this model of Yairi all the time. The vast majority are flawless and end up going for around $500 or $600 with humicase! I have not played a bad CY116 so mail order is of very little threat because you know what you are getting at least in the basic guitar! Get one and have it ruin you. | Add Your Comments: | |
